Design motifs drew directly from place — stylized 'ōhi'a lehua flowers appear behind the front desks, while a mix of wood and basalt ties the interior palette to the abundant lava flows that define the surrounding landscape.
On the Paniolo Terrace, newly designed shading trellises were added overhead, while modular furniture allows the space to flex easily between different functions and events, maximizing its versatility as a gathering spot. The focused scope delivered a meaningfully elevated guest experience at the resort's most-used gathering spaces, while working within a defined footprint and budget.
That same sense of place carries into the guestrooms. New carpet was designed with a pattern echoing the fractured texture of pāhoehoe lava, grounding each room in the island's volcanic landscape underfoot. Neutral fabrics throughout the soft goods are accented in blue and orange — a palette pulled directly from the sunsets over the ocean the resort is known for — bringing a quiet, site-specific warmth to the guest experience.
